So Treasury Secretary-Designate Timothy Geithner failed to pay his taxes until the Obama vetting team discovered the “honest mistake.” And he, also “mistakenly,” illegally employed an illegal immigrant worker. There are only two possible explanations, both of which should disqualify him. Either he is a criminal or he’s not as bright as he has been portrayed. Personally, I think he’s plenty bright.
What is disturbing about this is that it comes while we are in the midst of a financial and economic crisis which is largely the creation of people who we were led to believe were brilliant and eminently qualified. People like former Fed Chairman Alan “Cheap money” Greenspan and Barney “roll the dice” Frank.
We hear a lot about peoples’ confidence in the free market being undermined by the current crises. But it is our confidence in Washington that needs reconsideration. These people are not gods. They are fallible humans, often ideologically driven and not always the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.
Whatever faith we might have had that the people pulling the levers were competent and reliable has been seriously shaken. Mr. Geithner probably will be confirmed notwithstanding his legal lapses. And he may very qualified in terms of intelligence and experience. We’ve paid a high tuition to learn that what we need to pay is more attention.

Global Hoax
We are about to sacrifice our standard of living for the dubious cause of global warming. There is abundant evidence that the world is not warming at all, but, even if it were, it is beyond human power to make any significant reduction.
“For most of the past 10,000 years,” says James Taylor, Senior Fellow of Environmental Policy at the Heartland Institute, “temperatures have been 1.0 to 3.0 Celsius warmer than they are today.” Taylor points out that the .6 increase during the 20th century is measured from the baseline of The Little Ice Age, “which saw the coldest global temperatures during the past 10,000 years.” The only way to make a case for global warming is to compare today’s temperatures to the abnormally low levels of The Little Ice Age.
You’ve heard about the polar bears? Polar bear numbers have doubled since the 1980s. Also, “Antarctic sea ice is growing and has been setting records for much of the past year.” Taylor further says that during the 20th century the Sahara and other deserts have shrunk.
As for the impact of human activity, Harvard scientists have published research results showing that temperatures reflect solar activity more than carbon dioxide. Writing in HuffingtonPost.com, Harold Ambler of TalkAboutTheWeather.com “The theory that carbon dioxide ‘drives’ climate in any meaningful way is simply wrong…Carbon dioxide can not absorb an unlimited amount of infared radiation.” For a more detailed explanation read the HuffingtonPost.com article.
The global warming hoax has grown because it serves the interests of so many groups, journalists, politicians, anti-capitalists, environmental extremists and America haters (here and abroad). It is economic suicide to make major policy decisions based on a theory so in conflict with the facts.
